Definition

For the purposes of this website, a Data Standard consists of a documented structure of data elements for the purpose of enhancing compatibility or compatibility of data from different sources. We have broken data standards into three main categories:

  • Protocols (data collection)
    • Standardized method for collecting data
    • Examples:

  • Schemas (data structure or content standard)
    • Table structure – including required elements

  • Thesauri – list of accepted terms
    • Crosswalk tables (exchange between standard)

  • Best Practices
    • Compilation of practices and procedures that constitute a preferred method of storing data
